i truly don't understand how you announce a trillion dollar sequel trilogy without at least the most basic, agreed-upon arc for the lead characters. i didn't understand at the time why they'd have 3 different directors, but i figured they must all be working within the confines of an approved outline. it's astonishing that the people involved had so little respect for the franchise or its fans that they figured as long as they threw money at it, the actual plot didn't need any care or consideration.

at least mando's cool.

daisy basically confirms that Rey was initially a Kenobi, then 'a nobody', then the grandaughter of Palpatine, then JJ wasn't even certain of that before TROS released.

Just another example of Disney attempting to carbon-copy the OT, obv.

it didn't need care or consideration. they made just as much money either way.

I think there were a few things in play:

- First, I can't think of many instances of an original multi-film franchise (i.e., not adapted from an existing source) that had the broad strokes plotted out in advance. At best, you usually get the first film made as a standalone and then have to retrofit a trilogy structure onto that with the second and third films, and even then (as evidenced by the OT), arcs ends up changing between the second and third film.

- I think Disney was concerned that an outline of a three-film trilogy would leak before the first film was even released. And with good reason, given that literally everything about TFA was online before screenings began.

- By most accounts, they did have an outline -- the one Lucas sold them -- and intended to go with it until Abrams came on board. He was the one who made the decision to toss it (and Arndt's work) and bring in Kasdan to write something completely different. And I think Abrams viewed his role in all of this to be a ringer whose only job was to gin up excitement, work the fanbase, and deliver something that could pull audiences out of the post-PT funk. I don't think he had a desire to be involved beyond that, and even if he did, he didn't have time to think ahead, because by deciding to shitcan the Lucas / Arndt stuff he set production back. Had he either 1) decided to stick with the outline provided or 2) come on much earlier, there might have been time to pull together a grander plan.

I mean, this is really it.

There's no reason to invest time, labor, and cash that to meticulously craft a coherent three-part story when you're confident that you're going to turn a profit no matter what.

8-)

I feel like the 180 degree drifting turnarounds shouldn't be canon but they're going to be wicked fun in game so whatever

goddamit just inject it into my veins

Tatooine AGAIN ha ha ha.

Is that Hoth or Ilum?

God if they get Luke in here at the end of S2 I will lose my shit.

Don't know how much of this Favreau had planned from the beginning but going to some seedy Gamorrean Fight Club is just pure Jedi Outcast and I love it.

Also: he's on a boat!

I suddenly thought of that bit in season 1 when Carl weathers says baby yoda is trying to eat him and started cracking up
Combarieu declares that the songs of birds are not "musical" either, because they are "very difficult to take down in notation." See his Music-Its Laws and Evolution, 155. Will some divine power please create a "Musical" bird to sing the Air for G String in exact Equal Temperament for M. Combarieu?
