hmm had like no interest in this band but checked em out based on the combo of song title and runtime for "dumbest girl alive" and dug that song but "doritos and fritos" a bit less. but still wanna give em a proper go. new album a good one to start with?

neither album breaks the 30 minute mark so it's not a big deal to listen to both i would say start with 1000 gecs but they are different enough you'll get your opinion out of what this band is about pretty quickly
love DGA 100%, and 757 seemed promising but the rest of this so far is not really pushin the same buttons for my perssonal tastes hrmm. liek the first track is "funny" but it feels like in a different way than the rest

I think my thing is that I'm an old who was into (and mostly now over) the stuff (that imo) they've made into pastiche. And that's not a criticism whatsoever, just my own taste.
i like the wild like, deep-fried-meme energy they've got, and the general sound, but the songs themselves are way more all over the place in a way where like, i could see the appeal but it just doesnt work for me.
THOUGH this 1000 album is way more consistent imo

i didn't "get" stupid horse for some reason (or gecs really) until i heard stupid horse (remix) by gfoty/count baldor and then everything clicked for some reason
stupid horse is like a pure shot of adrenaline to me when i hear it. i feel like an 8 year old that's had way too much sugar when it comes on, it rocks

In my experience people with this reaction after first listen end up loving them after a few more spins. When you start expecting & anticipating the songs stop sounding all over the place and feel perfectly rational

this rocks so hard. i thought it was from a recent show and i was like "why is the setlist so old?!?!" and then i realized it was from Feb 20, right before the pandy. whole show shreds.

Idk if it was posted in here (possibly by me) but their song exploder episode about money machine is particularly cool bc it helps explain why a song like that exists
Honestly after listening to that it helped me understand a whole lot about how they structure things
here's a real shitty video of gecs the other night. pretty good show, sounded great, but my old man boomer heart just couldn't entirely embrace the 'hit play and then dance around' aesthetic. fever ray's set right before was blindingly good though
