just announced we're getting dragged back into the office in january. what a joke.

im positive we're going to have another spike coming into early winter given waning vax efficiencies and this is all going to get scuttled again

really? guessing it depends on line of work, but seems like big downtown building office capacity is still at a fraction of what it once was

Downtown office worker here. Some offices are fully open, some not at all. "Back to work" for me means we are expected to show our faces 1-2x a week. The narrative now is the office will be different, but there will still be an office. You see 35-40% attendance being reported, it seems accurate.

My married friends work at the same company. They have a four-month-old baby and returned to the office about a month ago. One them has a direct report who just tested positive.

At least for one month they and their company were able to reap the massive benefits of in-person work like... uh...

same. though i am adamant that working an 8 hour shift and dealing with rush hour both ways wont be happening, i can come in late and leave early and make it up at home.

our office is open but we don't ever have to go back in if we don't want to. i think we'll be ditching our fancy downtown space when the lease is up next year and getting something smaller because apparently there's like 5 people in there on an average day now. thank u covid.

that tracks since white collar jobs are about 40% of the workforce, and really only big corps sent workers home for the most part

Heart damage from Covid-19 extends well beyond the disease’s initial stages, according to a study that found even people who were never sick enough to need hospitalization are in danger of developing heart failure and deadly blood clots a year later.

Heart disease and stroke are already the leading causes of death worldwide. The increased likelihood of lethal heart complications in Covid survivors -- who number in the hundreds of millions globally -- will add to its devastation, according to the study, which is under consideration for publication by a Nature journal.

“The aftereffects of Covid-19 are substantial,” said Ziyad Al-Aly, director of the clinical epidemiology center at the Veterans Affairs St. Louis Health Care System in Missouri, who led the research. “Governments and health systems must wake up to the reality that Covid will cast a tall shadow in the form of long Covid, and has devastating consequences. I am concerned that we are not taking this seriously enough.”

It'd be awful to be RCMP there. I like this cop's response to being called a 'Brownshirt': "You putting on a mask to cover your unbrushed teeth is not the same as what happened to Jews".

More great Dawson Creek news:

So apparently at the same meeting where this great discussion took place....

...city staff allowed some protesters to speak. One lady who identified herself as a 'molecular biologist' but really just sells herbal teas in town spoke. The video has been used by anti vax groups the world over. and seen as credible due to the fact that it's framed that she is 'presenting to city council'.

It's a fascinating read on how clips get skewed and are used to create a false sense of credibility.

that can't be ideal, right? if your home test relies on smartphone technology??

yeah, that's this one: Image

my 4 y/o was congested/runny nose/etc after his first week of VPK in august and he took one of those tests, which came back positive. went to get a PCR the same day and it was negative.

it's super easy to use and only requires one test (vs. 2 taken 36 hours apart) - but that day sucked for all of us.

My family had a false positive with this particular test as well and blew up our lives for about 48 hours. I'd avoid this one unless it's your only option.

Just got the recall email about this one!

I think I figured out the COVID protocols for what I have to do to travel as a dual citizen from the US (where I live) to Canada and back for a short trip. But who knows.

make sure you have someone else (pharmacy/doctor/testing center) take your covid test for you. a friend of mine was turned away at the border even though she had the correct type of test and a negative result cause she took it herself at home... don't know if you even need a test with citizenship though
