some very liberal definitions of casserole in this thread. but maybe the real casserole was the friends we made along the way?

In life, as in casseroles, sometimes there is a cassoulet... but that is not true on this morning. I don't believe it.

the Kenji recipe involves fresh shallots (mandolined & fried), and it's an optional step but I absolutely recommend it - takes what's already a great dish and takes it to the next level. I'm probably making a big batch this weekend just to get ahead of it for Thanksgiving, and then you can put them on whatever you want because they keep well - delicious!

one time my aunt Rosie couldn’t find the French’s crispy onions, so on the way over to our house she got onion rings at the Burger King drive thru to put on top

the first time i made that recipe was on a thanksgiving morning years ago. i burned the shallots and was so pissed. i went back to the grocery store to buy more shallots because who wants some weird creamy green bean slop without a crunchy topping. i got it right the next try and the shallots were great, but the casserole still flopped

in my defense i DQed baked ziti because it's so good it would win the conversation. so in a way, my thread was always about baked ziti.

I use to like sbarro's lasagna when I was younger. Wish it was still open in the mall. Wouldn't mind some.

You know I'm not sure I've ever actually had tater tot hot dish.

Funny this thread should be bumped on this night of all nights, as I'm currently waiting on a big pan of lasagna to finish its long journey to my tummy

I used fresh noodles this time and really reduced the bolognese, so hopefully I'll be able to actually snap a pic of it sliced without it just spreading deliciously and messily across my plate
