I worked for a daycare at the u of I and this was always the Friday lunch. The daycare owner always put all the leftovers in a bag and sent em home with me. Truly blessed time.

I hate baked ziti
Like I don’t get the appeal at all and don’t understand why someone even invented it
It’s a big personal shortcoming

Well. The appeal seems to be good sauce, good pasta, good cheese, mostly.

I think baked ziti is kind of the easy version of lasagna, is the appeal.

But I mean I get it, you could just have pasta and sauce with some cheese on it. It does feel like an in-between dish.

Childhood: Tater tot, Tuna noodle, Corn casserole (the side w/ like Jiffy cornbread mix)
Now: Green bean casserole
I bet they're all good, though I've developed some aversion to overcooked pasta and hamburger gravy.

I'm not sure what to say to this baked ziti hate, other than assuming you all are just curdling ricotta and failing to manage moisture.
All of the classic casserole shit can be great if you actually make a sauce and take some care in putting it together. Panburger partnership goes both ways.

Americans will be like "you gotta try my region's distinctive casserole" and serve you the most overdone macaroni you've ever had in your life baked in alternating layers of cheeto dust, ham slices, cheez wiz, and sour cream. with crushed cheetos on top

Are emchiladas a casserole? If not the chile relleno casserole my ex's mom made was sooo good. Just a woven mat of chile rellenos in a egg and green chile mixture

100% correct, and I think all this shit will just go into the slow cooker for a general softening now too.
CW: Vile
Over the years, a different casserole also named “John Wayne Casserole” has emerged, popularized by the University of Mississippi Medical Center Cafeteria version in Jackson, Mississippi. It is very different in composition from the original, having in common only three ingredients — jalepeno peppers, cheese, and tomatoes, and the “south-western” theme. This Mississippi version adds a crust and meat, drops the eggs, and cuts the amount of cheese down by three-quarters. This version is served every other Thursday at the cafeteria. They had stopped serving it at one point, but brought it back by popular demand from staff and faculty, who have nicknamed the dish “The Duke.”
With simple ingredients like chicken, cream cheese, cottage cheese, sour cream, and cream of chicken soup you’ll have yourself this delicious million dollar chicken casserole. In our opinion, this dish isn’t complete without the crisp crumbled Ritz crackers on top for the perfect creamy-crunch ratio.
