converge are godly and it helps that they actually grew up and got better with time. i find 'jane doe' kinda cringe to go back to unfortunately, which i think is sadly in large part because it was the primary influence on a lot of worse records.

i have always hated daughters. i relistened to their album from... 2018ish? that got buzz again just trying to figure out wtf people liked about it after lingua ignota called him out and going through their lyrics after finding out the lead singer is a piece of shit is excruciating.

Listening to BPIB again now and it’s hitting. Must just not have been in the mood when I tried a little while back. Good vibe

Sorry I keep getting excited about stuff from 2003 that isn’t actually on topic but I wonder how My Morning Jacket It Still Moves holds up.

when my parents were driving me to my college freshman move in day, we put on the college station when we were like 20 miles away on the interstate... within a couple songs Fucking's Greatest Hits came on and I remember thinking, "man... college is going to be so fucking cool.... "

and I was right

I never considered Converge a scene kid band they had too much cred as the only good metalcore band.

yeah, i love this and i absolutely understand what i had against it in 2003. it has an undeniable pop sensibility and was totally inseparable from the early 00s "scene kid" look, and i was reflexively against that at the time. the ross robinson nu metal production here works great (i think he did the big glassjaw album from around this time too?). it really takes me back to going to these kind of shows; it's weird how something i didn't really listen to can completely capture a particular moment, but i guess that's why it was THE big album in this scene at the time.

the first glassjaw album is.... rough lyrically but has some bright spots. i'm mostly willing to give it a pass because so many of those songs were written by a teenager.

mostly making this post to remark i do genuinely like ross robinsons work on worship and tribute, a record i really adore overall, and i think in retrospect thats largely cuz they were trying to cut the difference between this style of music and faith no more.
