And I could never find my way
To being the kind of friend you seemed to need in me
Till the needing had ceased

Really hit me like a ton of bricks last night.

Incredible to watch how meticulously detailed she is on servicing every note of vocal and instrumentation but then when she slips up she just laughs it off. The Q&A kinda got at that too, like 80-90% of her answers were "I don't know" lol, but then the performance level is so otherworldly high. I don't know it's hard to process and contributes to an overwhelming mysterious experience.

The night I was there someone asked if she liked Lana Del Rey and she said she'd never listened to her but has "no negative opinions" about her

all i remember is a harp weighs 110lbs ("about one joanna newsom"), she prefers dogs to cats, doesn't miss new york, hasn't read a book in a year, and jokingly asked for another question when asked about next album

I went to the first NY date and she did mention she thought her harp was going out of tune, but after a few songs on the piano she went back to the harp and was like umm...yeah, fuck it, as we all exhaled. So no q&a at all, no stoppages. Just regular ole banter.
Nice day if it doesn't rain.

i was in row 6 out of 7 up there and everything was just fine and dandy.

oh also someone asked how she found the venue and she said she didnt - her booking agent pitched it to her and when she saw the art and decor it felt like it was her exploded onto the walls or something like that

i got the sense that people were looking for deep stories and stuff, but "my booking agent pitched it to me" was indicative of the dynamic. i think that's really funny

Yeah same. It's funny how similar it sounds like the questions were on my night and yours. I hope at least you didn't have a guy in the audience trying to mansplain what was wrong with her piano's dampers.

The last time I saw her she tuned her harp after every song it seemed like. Didn't mind it at all of course.

got there 30 minutes early and a line was half around the block. Still got great seats. I'd suggest showing up 45-1hr early.

I couldn't have asked for more on this set list. really glad we went

Tonight's set list was (order is roughly correct but not 100%):
Bridges and balloons
Only skin
Easy
In California
Book of right on
Emily
Waltz
'81
A pin light bent
Time as a symptom
Anecdotes
Sadie
Sapokanikan
Cosmia
Have one on me
Peach plum pear

Been thinking a lot lately about the performance I went to in September and how it was one of the best things I've experienced in the past couple of years. I feel very lucky and something about having been in a room full of other strangers crying at Joanna Newsom feels even more poignant right now barely 6 months later.

Thanks for the Only Skin vid, ric_joe. She's the best

Two things in this video:

The transition from Time, As A Symptom into Anecdotes is sublime. The transition from piano to harp in Anecdotes was perfect when I saw her and it's perfect here :D

Thinking about how she played Esme at the show I went to in September and I sat there thinking about my best friend's daughter (who was born 2 weeks earlier) and sobbing lol
